Filibuster Bottled in Bond ups the ante for the distillery, with a quality bottled in bond release that builds off a traditional bourbon base.
Filibuster Distillery was initially based in Washington, DC, not far from the Capitol Building (hence the name), before moving to Virginia. The company prides itself on strong character and freedom of expression. The bourbon is crafted using grains from HWK Farms in the Shenandoah Valley region in Virginia, highlighting the region's unique characteristics.
Filibuster Bottled in Bond is a solid release from the Virginia distillery. The flavor profile builds off a standard bourbon base of caramel and rye spice, with interesting accents throughout. On the nose, honey and green tea splash against a unique floral backdrop with an herbal undertone. More honey, orange zest, and apricot bring sweet notes to the palate, with allspice merging with rye spice to provide balance and structure. Seasoned oak emerges on the finish, along with allspice, caramel, and a hint of tobacco.
Filibuster Bottled in Bond has a bright, lively flavor profile. Its age isn’t high enough to pull in heavy oak influence, but there aren’t any grain-forward artifacts either. Overall, it’s a quality release from the distillery.
The bottle in review is from batch 2024-03 and is bottle number 2410.
