Changing the naming format to the year instead of the number in the ongoing series, Bardstown Bourbon Company 2026 Discovery ventures further into finishing with a three bourbon blend in Garryana oak.

Bardstown Bourbon Company 2026 Discovery diverges from previous Discovery releases in a few notable ways. It follows Discovery Series #13 but uses a new naming format, “2026 Discovery,” which implies the company plans to release one Discovery bottle per year. Following the trend of Discovery Series #13, 2026 Discovery isn’t just about the blend, but the finishing barrels as well; in this case, finishing in Garryana oak barrels similar to their Distillery Reserve: Cascadia Garryana Oak Barrel Finish, which was released earlier this year. Released alongside Lochs of Jura Barrel Finish, both releases feature artwork by Louisville artist Margaret Archambault inspired by the whiskey itself.

Bardstown Bourbon Company 2026 Discovery’s continued finishing trend brings subtle nuance to the blend rather than a dominant impact. The aroma is nicely balanced, with fruit leather, baking spices, brown sugar, and wood spice. Sweet flavors define the palate, with brown sugar and vanilla wafer up front, followed by an unusual orange flavored hard candy note. Nutmeg on the back end gives way to white pepper and clove at the start of the finish. Dried fruit, brown sugar, and a tasty gingerbread cookie note cap the sip off.

Like previous versions of Bardstown Bourbon Discovery Series, 2026 Discovery is an elegant, well-executed blend. The bourbon has nicely integrated flavors and brings some unique elements to the sip, most notably the orange flavored hard candy note. But like past Discovery blends, it just doesn’t elevate to the level Bardstown Bourbon Company is able to achieve with their Distillery Reserve releases, instead leaning into more classic, familiar territory. 2026 Discovery delivers a premium bourbon that certainly won’t disappoint, but won’t wow either.
