According to the company’s press release, Chattanooga Founder’s 10th Anniversary Blend is formulated by distillery founder and CEO, Tim Piersant. “After 3-4 years of primary and secondary aging, casks of the original ‘1816’ recipe (the third mash bill featured in the blend - known as ‘1816RES’) are transferred into Chattanooga Whiskey’s 650 gallon charred oak 1816 Barrel. Here, casks of different ages marry together until ready for inclusion into the Anniversary Blend.”

Chattanooga Founder’s 10th Anniversary Blend brings together bourbons from the distillery’s history, combining in-house distilled bourbon with bourbon sourced from Ross & Squibb Distillery (formerly MGP), where the company originally got its start. As seen in Smooth Ambler Contradiction, bringing together very different bourbons can be a challenge. For this blend, Chattanooga brings the bourbons together quite well into what is a nicely balanced and cohesive end result. The blend comes across as a bourbon that takes their more typical high malt flavor profile and pulls it into more traditional territory. Its balance is a gift and a curse, as the bourbon is full flavored, but not as unique as their products tend to be. Similar to Chattanooga’s other bourbons, it shows no sign of youth at about 3-4 years old, instead highlighting the flavors that lean towards malt, caramel, toffee, and tobacco. At $50, Chattanooga Founder’s 10th Anniversary Blend is money well spent for a bourbon few will dislike.
