Rebel 100 Childress Vineyards Cabernet Franc Barrel Finish is a well-balanced wine finished straight bourbon that gets a lot right, including its price.
Rebel Bourbon is the Official Bourbon of Richard Childress Racing (RCR) and has partnered with Childress Vineyards for this release. Childress Vineyards owns over 70 acres of vineyards and 15 varieties of European Vitis vinifera cultivars at their two vineyards in North Carolina.
The bourbon’s cabernet franc finish is noticeable throughout its sip. Right from the start, red fruit dominates, followed by light barrel char and a hint of cigar wrap. Likewise, the palate also features big raspberry notes, followed by plum and traditional notes of caramel and vanilla. The finish transitions to darker fruits, specifically black currant and blackberry, which are equally mixed with tobacco and earthy barrel char.
Rebel impressed with their last release, Rebel Kyle Busch 108 Single Barrel Bourbon, and this release follows suit. It’s a very well-balanced wine finished bourbon that is careful not to overdo its finish, but also refrains from becoming overly sweet either. It finds a perfect middle ground, and at $40, it’s priced to move. Given its appropriateness, it’s an easy recommendation to just about any bourbon drinker who enjoys a touch of wine influence in their bourbon.
