A blend of 3 estate bourbons from different regions of the United States, Farmers Fields Bourbon strikes a balance between grounded and unique.
Lost Lantern’s Summer 2025 Collection “celebrates the rise of estate distilleries.” These types of distilleries grow all of their own grain either onsite or within a short distance to their distilling facilities. This helps give rise to the “grain to glass” movement within the whiskey industry and, like wine, seeks to highlight terroir, or a "sense of place" that the whiskey embodies.
Farmers’ Fields Bourbon is a blend of straight bourbons from the three distilleries also featured as single barrel bourbons within Lost Lantern’s Summer 2025 Estate Distillery Collection. The distillery bourbons in the blend come from a range of geographical locations throughout the United States, ranging from the far Southwest with Frey Ranch (Fallon, NV), to the extreme north with Far North (Hallock, MN), and Whiskey Acres (DeKalb, IL), hailing from the Midwest.
The distilleries that produced the bourbons that make up this blend offer unique, distinctive flavor profiles, but they come together in a cohesive way in this very small blend. The bourbon is vibrant up front, with a full aroma and lively baking spices at the start of the sip. Complements of stone fruit, honey, and pie crust on the nose give way to a palate that is grounded in sweet notes but accented by spice, with brown sugar being the most prominent flavor note among caramel, tobacco, and graham cracker. The finish ends with tapering spice, brown sugar, and cinnamon toast. Most notably, there’s an undertone of earthiness throughout the sip that reaches a climax at the midpoint, and comes across more like slightly sweetened cereal in the nose and finish (Honey Nut Cheerios and a slightly sweetened cereal, respectively).
These blends are difficult to pull off, and historically, I have gravitated towards Lost Lantern’s single barrels as opposed to their small batch blends. However, Farmers’ Fields Bourbon gets a lot more right than its predecessor blends, and the result is a distinctive, full-flavored whiskey that’s quite enjoyable and complex.
Lost Lantern Summer 2025 Estate-Distillery Collection: Farmers’ Fields Bourbon is a small blend totaling 428 bottles.
