Staying close to a baseline of traditional, sweet bourbon flavors, Larceny Barrel Proof Batch B525 isn’t groundbreaking, but it delivers a tasty, immediately likable pour.
Larceny Barrel Proof was launched in January 2020, and each year, Heaven Hill releases three numbered batches identified by a specific batch code. Batches range in age from 6-8 years and vary in proof, though it is possible for batches to be the same proof as previous batches from time to time. This second batch of 2025, designated by batch code B525: B (for the second release of the year), 5 (for May release month ), and 25 (for 2025 release year), clocks in at 117.4 proof, which is on the lower side for the brand.
Larceny Barrel Proof Bourbon releases to date have been mixed, ranging from above average to exceptional. Being a wheated bourbon, it’s not unusual for batches to have some unwanted astringency, which is more common as the wheat in a mashbill increases. Batch B525 doesn’t have any of that astringency, and instead goes all-in on the sweet flavors bourbons are known for, which is likely amplified due to the wheat in the bourbon’s mashbill. These flavors include caramel, brown sugar, and honey, with an ever-present cinnamon note adding just a sprinkling of spice. Light seasoned oak, graham cracker, and leather join the mix, but they take a backseat to the more present traditional flavors this batch has to offer.
While Larceny Barrel Proof Batch B525 doesn’t break any new flavor territory, it dials in traditional, sweet flavors quite well, making for a highly drinkable, full-flavored pour.
