Dragon’s Milk Origin Small Batch Bourbon instantly caught our taste buds' attention when we first tasted their new in-house distilled bourbon. It didn’t taste like many other new 5 year old bourbons hitting the market. It was full of flavor, focusing on spice and chocolate as its major flavor callouts. This unique flavor profile stayed with us and why we jumped at the chance to be the first to offer their Origin Bourbon in a toasted barrel finish in our Single Barrel Club. New Holland’s trial with a toasted barrel finish went over so well with everyone who tried it, they returned in 2023 with a four barrel series of toasted finished bourbons each with its own unique title.

Barrel 2023A or “The Woodshop” as it is aptly named, encompasses the tastes and smells you’d likely experience after spending time in a proper woodshop. The aroma is excellent with a delicious fusion of candied pecans, vanilla ice cream, sawdust, and cinnamon. The palate is similar, but slightly pivots to darker and richer profile of brown sugar, leather, cinnamon oak, and pecans. The finish keeps on theme but introduces a layer of baking spices, pepper, and burnt sugar. The entire whiskey comes together into one coherent and statement-making package.

It’s amazing what New Holland has created with their Origin brand line in such a short amount of time. With a wealth of toasted barrel finished whiskey on the market, Dragon’s Milk Origin Toasted Barrel “The Woodshop” manages to not only stand out from them, but also stand above them.
