Copper & Cask Double Oak Bourbon is a consistently high quality sourced bourbon from an independent bottler, quietly led by Barrel Master Stephen Corrigan.
Copper & Cask Double Oaked Bourbon Batch 014 is part of the company’s Small Batch series. It combines 16 barrels of bourbon covering two mashbills, all of which were distilled by Ross & Squibb Distillery but aged in Kentucky. The original barrels were blended and re-barreled in new American Oak Wave Stave barrels for 10 months. This release is one of the company’s ongoing products, however, each batch is different and relatively small. This is a 19 barrel batch with a total bottle count of 3,600 bottles.
I previously reviewed Batch 007 and found the overall quality of Batch 014 to be consistent with it, albeit Batch 014’s higher age shows through more prominently. Batch 014 is a savory pour, with leather, oak tannins, pie crust, and peppery aged oak all coming into play. Sweet notes of caramel, graham cracker, and vanilla custard also poke through, along with complementary baking spices, though they are not the focus. The bourbon’s velvety mouthfeel helps deliver the flavors nicely.
Latitude Beverage brand and one that has been producing an increasing number of sourced releases very quietly, of which have been curated by Barrel Master Stephen Corrigan. The quality of their releases has been pretty high, and the price point is pretty good, and despite a lot of their whiskeys originating from MGP, they seem to have a knack for sourcing and blending. Copper & Cask Double Oak Bourbon (Batch 014) is worth every penny of its $75 price point.
