The complexity of Copper & Cask Cigar Blend Bourbon Batch 13 comes from its five-cask finish - Armagnac, Tawny Port, Cognac, PX Sherry, and Oloroso Sherry - resulting in an enjoyable but wide-ranging flavor journey.

Copper & Cask sure loves their cigar blends, releasing new batches every few months. Thankfully, they keep it fresh by dramatically changing up how each one is constructed. Where the last batch we reviewed was a 20 year Canadian whiskey finished in three finishing barrels, this latest batch is an 8 year old Indiana bourbon finished in five casks for 6 months.

The beautifully colored bourbon reveals scents of grape and raspberry upfront that give way to cinnamon and seasoned oak. Vanilla custard and a hint of orange peel round out the effective aroma. The palate is a stewed fruit paradise with layers of grape, raspberry, and strawberry hitting you all at once. Plum and date introduction signals the turn the finish will bring. Dry oak and dried fruit begin the finish on a grounded note, with leather, brown sugar, and dark chocolate leveling the sip off.

Like many cigar bourbons before it, Copper & Cask Cigar Blend Bourbon goes for the kitchen sink approach, combining many of the most popular individual finishes into one sip. Because the finishes are fruit-focused, the flavors integrate well with each other. The bourbon goes from a juicy note at the start of the palate to grounded dryness by its end, resulting in quite the journey. The main gripe is its lack of focus. Recent successful cigar blends have narrowed their focus to great effect, and Copper & Cask Cigar Blend Bourbon swings wide. Despite this, it's an enjoyable sipper that many will enjoy the overall balance it achieves.
