Pursuit United Triple Mash Barrel Proof Rye is barrel strength blend of three ryes from two distilleries, offering a complex and citrus-forward sip that delivers more than you’d expect.
Pursuit United Tripe Mash Barrel Strength Rye is produced by Pursuit Spirits, whose two co-founders got their start in American whiskey as part of the podcast team at Bourbon Pursuit. Bourbon and American whiskey enthusiasts themselves, co-founders Ryan Cecil and Kenny Coleman have showcased enthusiast-level details on the bottle’s label and marketing materials, including the source states, distilleries, and the three mashbills that comprise the triple mash blend.
Pursuit United Triple Mash Barrel Proof Rye features the same blend of mashbills as their 88 proof Pursuit United Triple Mash Rye, but rye enthusiasts will find a lot of extra intensity with this release. At 121.8 proof, it's a bold rye, but the inclusion of 43% corn in one of its mashbills does a lot to create a more sweet-tasting sip. The extra proof also brings out more of its citrus notes in the form of orange marmalade, lemon, and seared orange peel. In addition to this, there is a more pronounced black tea note found in it that adds an extra dimension to the sip. This batch also features a better mouthfeel that the previous batch lacked, which is much more transformative than you’d expect.
The 88 proof Pursuit United Triple Mash Rye is a good sipper for those who prefer a lower proof rye, the extra proof of the barrel strength version makes for a decidedly more impactful and all-around better pour that rye lovers will find a lot to enjoy.
The bottle in review is from Batch 10CF.
