Pursuit United Triple Mash Barrel Proof Rye is a complex blend of straight ryes from Bardstown Bourbon Co. and Sagamore Spirit, showcasing well-tuned balance and quality typical of the growing premium rye whiskey category.

Pursuit United Bourbon is produced by Pursuit Spirits, whose two co-founders got their start in the world of American whiskey as part of the podcast team at Bourbon Pursuit. This release features a new bottle and label design, as the company states it is a “comprehensive packaging refresh featuring a distinctive custom bottle and updated labels across the entire Pursuit United line, designed to enhance shelf presence and clarify product identity.”

Pursuit United Triple Mash Barrel Proof Rye features the same two sources that comprise their Blended Straight Rye, but is a new blend, the company states, that took them a year to fine-tune. The proof is also barrel strength this time around, which allows more of the blend's complexity to come out.

Featuring one mashbill from Bardstown Bourbon Co. and two from Sagamore Spirit creates a layered drinking experience. The Bardstown Bourbon Co. part seems to act as a base, and the Sagamore Spirit-distilled parts are presumably younger, giving the sip some vibrancy. The give and take works in the rye’s favor and makes a strong case for how important blending can be.

The aroma is fruit-forward and dynamic. The palate features a strong crème brûlée base, which blueberry and blackberry work off of to an enjoyable effect. It's at this point that the rye’s mouthfeel comes into play, featuring an enjoyable silkiness. Ending with hits of traditional rye notes of spicy cinnamon, nutmeg, cinnamon roll, and mint, it is robust but is medium in length, ending in light dryness.

Pursuit United Triple Mash Barrel Proof Rye shares good company in quality with recently released Star Trek Spirits x Stellium Cask Strength Rye and Still Austin Bottled in Bond Rye. Given that the price of all three products is $80, it seems like this is becoming a new baseline of quality ryes. Pursuit United’s rye releases are seeing a slow but steady trajectory upward, and Pursuit United Triple Mash Barrel Proof Rye is their best rye yet.
