Onyx & Amber Bourbon: Guest Blender Series: Ryan Negley is a skillful blended sourced bourbon that features a delightful aroma, alluring mouthfeel, and a highly complex finish.

Onyx & Amber was created by Ben Rosen, best known for creating the Colorado Bourbon and Rye Collectors in 2017. Based in Denver, Colorado, the company currently focuses on sourcing single barrels ranging in age between 6-27 years old. The company’s Guest Blender Series invites well-known tastemakers in the industry to construct their own blend.

For this inaugural Guest Blender batch, it is a blend of nine barrels from Ross & Squibb Distillery, ranging in age from 7 to 12 years old, and all of them spent some time aging in Colorado. It was blended by Ryan Negley, whose former employment includes Boulder Spirits, Deerhammer Distilling, and Peach Street Distillers. He is also the co-founder of the Denver Whiskey Club.

The bourbon opens with a delightful aroma that combines peach cream, rose petals, maple syrup candy, milk chocolate, and toasted oak - all of which can be pulled out with exact precision. The palate features a wonderfully warm and coating mouthfeel that features chocolate malt balls, raisin, and dried tropical fruit. The finish is shockingly complex, with notes of brown sugar, fudge, black pepper, burnt butterscotch, toasted cinnamon, orange bitters, and dry seasoned oak.

Guest Blender Series: Blend No. 1 Ryan Negley has a wide range of flavors, but they all have their place, contributing to the greater sip. Though the bourbon originated from Ross & Squibb Distillery - and hints of it can be pulled out if you’re looking for it - the blend is far from your typical Ross & Squibb Distillery blended bourbon. Starting from its unique and alluring aroma, to its great mouthfeel, and complex finish, this Onyx & Amber Bourbon Ryan Negley blend comes together in style - both in look and taste. Anyone that feels tired of yet another Ross & Squibb Distillery blend should make an exception for this release. This release hits you on all fronts, making it well worth its $88 asking price.
