Combining 17 bourbons from seven different states, Barrell Craft Spirits New Year 2026 is a well-balanced sipper with bright fruit notes.
Barrell Bourbon New Year is always a fun release from Barrell Craft Spirits. Released annually at the end of the year in celebration of the upcoming new year, the bourbons have been increasingly complex blends bringing together components from various states and age ranges. Last year’s release included 18 bourbons spanning eight states, while this year’s release includes 17 bourbons from seven states, dropping the Texas component.
Inching some of the component ages up a bit, slightly decreasing the proof, and maintaining a similar derived mashbill as the prior year’s New Year release results in a complex blend that drinks a little lighter and leans more heavily into fruit notes. The bourbon starts with sweet notes on the nose accented by tropical fruits and citrus notes. On the palate, summer fruits emerge up front, followed by an array of sweet flavors that transition to cinnamon and baking spices. The spice pulls into the finish, where a range of fruit flavors are joined by savory notes of leather and aged oak.
As Barrell Craft Spirits has proven time and time again, their ability to bring a wide range of bourbons together into a cohesive blend is top notch. Quality remains steadily high, similar to the past few releases, but for the 2026 release, the bourbon is a bit more easy-sipping and brighter, thanks to its overall evenness and pervasive fruit notes. Overall this is another winner from Barrell Craft Spirits.
