The annual limited edition Old Forester 1924 10-Year-Old Bourbon once again delivers a concentrated and familiar Old Forester red fruit flavor profile that is impactful in all the right ways.
Old Forester 1924 10-Year-Old is an annual limited edition bourbon. It was first released in 2024 and follows 1870 Original Batch (2014), 1897 Bottled in Bond (2015), 1910 Old Fine Whisky (2018), and 1920 Prohibition Style (2017). Old Forester 1924 features a unique mashbill: 79% corn, 11% rye, and 10% malted barley, versus the standard Old Forester recipe of 72% corn, 18% rye, and 10% malted barley. The brand states that “When 1924 was first released in January 2024, it celebrated and honored the 100th anniversary of whiskey innovation as Old Forester is the only bourbon brand produced before, during, and after Prohibition.”
Old Forester’s last release of 2025, Prohibition Era Still Proof Bourbon, was a full-flavored 130 proof sip, but an interesting facet of the sip was that it didn’t feature the brand’s typical red fruit flavor profile. The company’s follow-up, the 2026 release of 1924 10-Year-Old Bourbon, once again doubles down on the red fruit goodness that the brand is typically known for. Fans of the prior two 1924 releases will find more of the same, and that’s a good thing.
Red fruits dominate the nose and palate of the 2026 release of Old Forester 1924. Cherry medicine hits hard and fast on the aroma, which is followed up with raspberry, black cherry, and prune. The palate starts with red currant and cranberry, before settling a shade darker with plum and black grape. The finish drops the red fruit altogether, layering in graham cracker, barrel char, allspice, and peppery dry aged oak - a nice contrast to what came before it.
The 2024 release started Old Forester 1924 on a cautious side, keeping things very traditional. Its 2025 follow-up ramped up its red fruit notes, which any Old Forester bourbon fan will tell you, is where the brand really shines. The 2026 release follows suit. Much has been said about its $120 price point for a 10 year old, 100 proof bourbon, but it always comes down to taste. This year’s release once again leaves an immediate impression at first sip, and it only gets better from there.
