Targeted at those seeking an Irish-inspired pour, McKenzie Pure Pot Still Whiskey leaves you wanting more.
Finger Lakes Distilling is located on the southeast side of Seneca Lake in New York’s Finger Lakes wine region. The brainchild of Brian McKenzie, the company was one of the earliest craft whiskey distilleries in New York, having started operations in 2007. Finger Lakes Distilling uses locally sourced grains for their products, and produces a variety of different whiskeys and liqueurs, with the McKenzie whiskey brand being what they’re most known for.
This Irish-inspired, pot-distilled whiskey immediately catches your attention with its light, straw-colored hue. It opens with youthful yet really interesting scents of grass, sawdust, and sliced green apple. The midpoint of the sip comes across as watery and thin, with faint appearances of vanilla, peach, and baking spices. Similar to the palate, the short finish displays lighter scents of rye spice, pie crust, and a touch of spiced vanilla. Targeted at those looking for an Irish-inspired pour, McKenzie Pure Pot Still Whiskey comes across as more thin than not, with less influence from both of its finishing barrels than expected.
