The first non-cask strength whiskey released by Lost Lantern, Far-Flung Bourbon 100 provides an agreeable option to consumers who don’t like their whiskeys high proof.
Lost Lantern’s Spring 2026 Collection explores the difference between high proof and low proof whiskeys, showcasing both the intensity of cask strength whiskeys and the balance and approachability of lower proof ones. The collection includes the new Far-Flung Bourbon 100 Proof alongside a stronger cask strength version, plus eight single casks paired by proof from distilleries across the U.S - some of which have never been featured by Lost Lantern before.
Lost Lantern Far-Flung 100 is part of the company’s Flagship Far-Flung Pairing, and also the first non-cask strength whiskey released by the company. With a proof of 100, it acts as the lower proof bottle of the pairing, with the other, Far-Flung IV, coming in at 120.7 proof. Both whiskeys share the same blend of bourbons from seven different distilleries from across the United States. The company states that “Proof isn’t just about alcohol level. It changes how aromas open, how texture develops, and how flavors integrate.”
The bourbon is on the gentler side, and that becomes apparent right from the start. Sweet, gentle scents of vanilla, banana soufflé, crème brûlée, and buttered popcorn invite you to explore further. The midpoint rides in on a thin mouthfeel, but still manages to focus on cinnamon stick, vanilla cream, lightly charred oak, and a black peppercorn spice, which adds a nice contrast. The ending is more straightforward, delivering classic flavors that ride out on a gentle lingering spice.
For the Spring 2026 Collection, Lost Lantern set out to compare high versus low proof bourbons, and this pairing is the best apples-to-apples comparison of the 10 bottles being released. Compared to Far-Flung IV, bringing the proof down to 100 results in a bourbon that's lighter and sweeter versus its higher proof brethren. Far-Flung IV delivers bolder flavors, but not everyone will want to seek out a 120 proof pour. While not as well-defined as Far-Flung IV, Far-Flung 100 still manages to deliver a bourbon that pulls together a wide range of distilleries into an interesting and cohesive sip.
Lost Lantern Blend Series: Far Flung Bourbon 100 is a 758 bottle release.
