Lost Lantern 2026 Single Cask #2 is an exceptionally chocolate-forward, high-proof American single malt from Copperworks Distilling that brilliantly showcases the category's potential.
Lost Lantern’s Spring 2026 Collection explores the difference between high proof and low proof whiskeys, showcasing both the intensity of cask strength whiskeys and the balance and approachability of lower proof ones. The collection includes the new Far-Flung Bourbon 100 Proof alongside a stronger cask strength version, plus eight single casks paired by proof from distilleries across the U.S - some of which have never been featured by Lost Lantern before.
Lost Lantern 2026 Single Cask #2 is part of the company’s High-Low Single Malt Pairing. Even with a proof of 120.6, it serves as the lower proof bottle of the pairing, with the other, Lost Lantern 2026 Single Cask #1: Boulder Spirits Colorado Single Malt, coming in at 138.7 proof. The company states that “Although produced in different states, these American single malts share key traits: unsmoked barley, traditional copper pot stills, and maturation in new oak barrels.”
The first question regarding Lost Lantern’s 2026 Single Cask #2 is: Would you like some malt whiskey with your chocolate? The 3 year, 8 month old American single malt from Copperworks Distilling is an incredibly chocolate-forward and surprisingly easy drinker at 120 proof. It’s careful to never enter into overly sweet territory and still retains its single malt characteristics. The result is an American single malt that may very well be remembered by the end of the year as one of the category’s best.
The whiskey opens with an indulgent aroma of chocolate mousse, dulce de leche, chocolate malt balls, and Nutella. The palate is careful not to retread flavors, introducing the lightness of a chocolate wafer, creamy milk chocolate, and cardamom at the midpoint. Underneath, decadent German chocolate cake works its magic. The finish adds traditional baking chocolate against chocolate malt grain, a dash of mixed baking spices, and a grounded seasoned oak note.
Though this single malt features a very narrow band of flavors, the many shades they come in are equal parts surprising and spectacular. Copperworks has quickly made a name for themselves in the American whiskey space, and they seem to keep getting better and better with each passing year. They also haven’t released their single malts at a high proof point yet, giving fans of the distillery a chance to taste the nuances high proof brings to their whiskey. Lost Lantern 2026 Single Cask #2 is a prime example of Lost Lantern doing what they do best: curating unique releases from up-and-coming distilleries.
Lost Lantern 2026 Single Cask #2: Copperworks Distilling Washington Single Malt is a 212 bottle release.
