A bold American single malt, Lost Lantern 2026 Single Cask #1: Boulder Spirits Colorado Single Malt walks the line between intensity and being overproofed.

Lost Lantern’s Spring 2026 Collection explores the difference between high proof and low proof whiskeys, showcasing both the intensity of cask strength whiskeys and the balance and approachability of lower proof ones. The collection includes the new Far-Flung Bourbon 100 Proof alongside a stronger cask strength version, plus eight single casks paired by proof from distilleries across the U.S - some of which have never been featured by Lost Lantern before.

Lost Lantern 2026 Single Cask #1 is part of the company’s High-Low Single Malt Pairing. With a proof of 138.7, it serves as the higher proof bottle of the pairing, with the other bottle being Lost Lantern 2026 Single Cask #2: Copperworks Distilling Washington Single Malt, which comes in at 120.6 proof. The company states that “Although produced in different states, these American single malts share key traits: unsmoked barley, traditional copper pot stills, and maturation in new oak barrels.”

The high proof of the whiskey is evident right from the get-go, as an intense aroma greets you. Scents of intense charred oak, clove, baking spices, burnt brown butter, and toasted cinnamon stick mingle with a faint poached pear, which adds a pleasing character. The intensity of the proof shines through in the midpoint as brown sugar, red fruits, intense spice, and syrup mingle with a distinct, heavily toasted cinnamon stick note. The finish continues the boldness of the sip, as spiced syrup, charred oak, baking spices, and Chinese cinnamon pummel your palate before the whiskey rides out on an intense lingering spice.

American single malt whiskeys are usually lower in proof and rarely approach HAZMAT territory. Lost Lantern 2026 Single Cask #1: Boulder Spirits Colorado Single Malt accepts the challenge well, delivering a sip that walks the line between incredibly bold and overproofed. Those who normally drink lower proof American single malt whiskeys will initially be taken aback by this whiskey. However, if you’re willing to sit with it and slowly discover the layered sip it produces, you’ll be greatly rewarded.

Lost Lantern 2026 Single Cask #1: Montgomery Distillery Montana Bourbon is a 173 bottle release.
