Looking to a new state for senator names, Kentucky Senator Spirits heads further south with their first release in the Louisiana Senator Bourbon series.
Louisiana Senator Bourbon is the first subbrand for Kentucky Senator Spirits. For their first six releases, the company focused solely on Kentucky Senators as part of their Kentucky Senator Bourbon line, with release 6 coming out earlier this year. By adding additional states, the company is able to expose new senators to their fanbase and expand their knowledge of American history.
For the inaugural Louisiana Senator Bourbon release, the company focused on Huey P. Long. Nicknamed “The Kingfish,” Long was the former Governor of Louisiana and served as a United States senator from 1932 until he was assassinated in office at the age of 42 in 1935. Notably, even though Louisiana Senator Bourbon Release #1 is focused on the state of Louisiana, the bourbon used in the blend is still sourced from Kentucky.
Release #1 of Louisiana Senator Bourbon plays it safe, leaning more towards straightforward, traditional notes from start to finish. The whiskey opens with various spices along with a toffee scent before transitioning to more spice-focused traditional flavors at the midpoint. Ending on notes of charred oak, cinnamon bundt cake, and rye spice, the bourbon fades out on oak and lingering heat. The whiskey may not reach the same highs that recent batches of Kentucky Senator Bourbon have touched, but it’s a good start for the brand, as those looking for a more traditional pour will be right at home.
