1792 Cognac Cask Finish Bourbon offers a well-balanced and sweet tasting experience, with prominent stone fruit and oak notes that make it an accessible and incredibly enjoyable finished bourbon at an extremely affordable price.
It’s been some time since we heard from Barton and their 1792 brand line. Though their core expressions and single barrel selection pop up from time to time, line extensions are far less common. In 2015, they introduced 1792 Port Finish, but haven’t expanded on their cask finished expression since then. 1792 Cognac Cask Finish marks the first cask-finished expression in the company’s permanent 1792 portfolio. Interestingly enough, Sazerac introduced this bourbon at the same price point as the Port Finish, which was released a decade ago - a rarity in today’s marketplace.
If you’ve had a Cognac-finished bourbon before, you’ll know what to expect from 1792 Cognac Cask Finish Bourbon. Stone fruits are plentiful and mixed in with an array of charred, sweet, and tannic oak notes throughout. What makes this particular release work so well is how incredibly well its flavors are integrated. It’s a very sweet bourbon at heart, but Barton did a great job balancing it with stone fruit and layers of oak. It will likely be welcomed by just about anyone who enjoys their finished bourbon on the sweet side. There’s no shortage of Cognac-finished bourbons on the market, but there’s something about Barton’s bourbon that seems to pair so well with Cognac. This no-nonsense, instantly likable finished bourbon is a steal at $38.
