[Tucson, AZ, October 3, 2025] - Sentinel of the Desert by Whiskey Del Bac, the sourced-but-finished brand from Tucson’s producer of international award-winning American single malt whiskeys, is pleased to announce the official release of Sentinel Bourbon. 

“When we launched the Sentinel of the Desert brand in 2022 with our sourced-but-finished straight rye whiskey, the immediate question from our customers was - ‘When will we see a bourbon?’” said Master Distiller & Blender Mark A. Vierthaler. “Like everything we do here at Whiskey Del Bac, we knew we needed to be purposeful, thoughtful, and transparent. And, of course, it needed to be delicious.” 

After tasting through dozens of bourbons over the course of 12 months, the production team settled on a blend of two and three-year-old bourbons originally distilled and aged in Ohio. The bourbon - a 60% yellow corn, 35% pumpernickel rye, and 5% heritage malt mash bill - is finished on freshly harvested Whiskey Del Bac® mesquited barrel staves. It’s then filtered across mesquite charcoal from our mesquited malting process in what is called the Pima County Process™. 

This produces a bright but punchy bourbon, dripping in smoked apple pie on the nose. The mesquite smoke takes a supporting role across the palate, finishing with long lasting singed vanilla. 

Sentinel of the Desert Whiskey began when customers of Whiskey Del Bac kept asking "What if you added your Southwest twist on rye and bourbon?" 

“As a small team, we couldn't take time away from producing our handcrafted American single malts to make our own rye or bourbon,” said Vierthaler. “Not only that, our production space is designed specifically for single malt production. So we sourced and added our own twist as we finished it.” 

Sentinel of the Desert Bourbon is a blend of two and three year old bourbons, bottled at 46% ABV/92 Proof, and has a recommended retail price of $40 a bottle. It is currently available at the distillery and in liquor stores and bars across Arizona, California, Colorado and Nevada. It will be available nationwide over the next several weeks.
