Press Release

Arnold, California, Nov 30, 2022- Hinterhaus Distilling, the 2020-founded craft distillery in the California Sierra Nevada by husband/wife owners & operators Nate & Bonnie Randall, released its second annual Warming Hut holiday spirit. A blend of the distillery’s award-winning 92 Proof Calaveras Cask Finish Bourbon and local port and honey, a limited run of Warming Hut is released each holiday season in the Hinterhaus bottle shop. This year for the first time, California shoppers have an opportunity to purchase Warming Hut on the Hinterhaus Distilling Online Shop (www.HinterhausDistilling.com) thanks to recent state legislation that allows distilleries to ship direct to patrons state wide temporarily through 2023.

Each year, Warming Hut brings hundreds of visitors to the distillery’s Sierra Nevada location to purchase bottles while supplies last. A tasty sipping spirit around the fire side or holiday table, Warming Hut exemplifies the hyper-local offerings that highlight Hinterhaus’ Sierra Nevada perch. From the Calaveras Cask Finish Bourbon which is finished in unique local wine barrels to the fortified port wine and honey made by local beekeeper, Rancho Calaveras Honey Co, this holiday spirit invites everyone to gather around and enjoy a true taste of the rugged yet welcoming land scape that is the California Sierra.

The distillery also released the brand’s first extensively aged whiskey, Trapper’s Oath 18 Yr Rye. It is the result of the distillery’s passion for finishing and blending whiskeys, and it’s the first foray into the rye market for Hinterhaus. Following its distillation and aging in eastern Canada, Nate Randall (Hinterhaus Distiller, Proprietor) moved the Hinterhaus ex-Calaveras Cask Finish Bourbon barrels that housed a local stout beer before blending each batch uniquely. A limited number of Trapper’s Oath bottles are available on the distillery’s Online Shop as well as at the bottle shop in Arnold, CA.

Hinterhaus sits in the small Sierra town of Arnold, CA, at elevation 4300ft. Located in one of California’s least populated counties (Calaveras), it offers a year-round tourist destination for skiers, boaters, hikers, and sportsmen. Its on-site Alpine modern bottle shop, tasting and cocktail room, and branded gear mercantile welcome patrons in with large windows that allow for viewing into the production and aging space.

Collaborating with a variety of local and regional partners including vintners and brewers is a hallmark of the distillery. From wine-distilled vodka and gin, to bourbon whiskey that is finished in local wine barrels and bierschnaps distilled from local beer, the spirit lineup pays homage to the bounty that surrounds the distillery. The Hinterhaus American Single Malt program recently commenced using floor-malted and Northern California grown barley from Admiral Maltings in Alameda, CA, and mash created for the purpose from two local breweries. Partnerships such as these allow the Randalls to produce unique, small batch spirits that reflect their region’s many robust offerings.
