Chattanooga, TN (September 2023) – Chattanooga Whiskey announced the newest release in their award-winning Experimental Single Batch Series: Batch 033: Triple Peat.
The blend of pot distilled bourbon, column distilled bourbon, and column distilled malt whiskey was made with three different peated malts from three different UK malthouses - each one bringing their own unique, rich, smoky malt character. After primary aging in new charred oak, the whiskeys were finished in 2nd fill casks from three different Islay Scotch distilleries - each from the southernmost part of the Isle – near Kildalton.
“As any lover of peated whiskey will tell you, not all peat smoke is exactly the same,” said Founding Distiller and Chief Product Officer, Grant McCracken. “Depending on where the malt was smoked, how much peat was used, and where the peat moss was harvested, you might end up with very different flavor and aroma qualities in the final whiskey. Our goal for Batch 033: Triple Peat was to create the most layered, multidimensional peat smoke character we could.”
Together, the final eight barrel blend highlights the wide-ranging complexity of the peated whiskey style - delivering a well-rounded, sweet and earthy peat smoke character that's greater than the sum of its parts.
Batch 033: Triple Peat will be available at the Chattanooga Whiskey Experimental Distillery at $74.99 for a 750ml bottle and available online for shipping to select states on Seelbachs.com. Expect notes of smoked apple, heather honey, caramel sauce and raisin scone, with a lingering, peaty finish.
