A year ago I reviewed Old 55 Single Barrel Bottled in Bond Bourbon, and was pretty impressed. So much so, that it made our Best Craft Whiskeys of 2020 list. A unique explosion of sweet flavors that was far more developed than I had expected for a 4 year old bourbon, I somewhat wondered if it was just a fluke.

Tasting this 100% corn mashbill, batched version I am picking up many of the same flavor notes, albeit just a little more balance of the smorgasbord of sweet flavors against oak, cinnamon, and tobacco notes. This unusual mashbill and now what I am starting to think of as a trademark “Old 55” flavor profile, is a bourbon that rivals even the best limited releases from Kentucky majors. If you’re not paying attention to Old 55 Distillery yet, let this serve as your wake up call.
