Press Release

LEXINGTON, Kentucky - Bluegrass Distillers, a craft distillery in Lexington, has announced the release of their first ever Bottled-in-Bond Wheated Bourbon. This small batch release will use Bluegrass’ Wheated mash bill of 75% corn, 21% wheat, and 4% malted barley. Bottled-in-Bond is a federal designation that mandates a bourbon must be made by one distillery in one season, aged at least four years in a federally bonded warehouse, and bottled at 100 proof in order to highlight the skill of the distiller.

This Small Batch Wheated Bourbon release is a blend of 4 barrels aged 4.5 years. Being a small batch and a limited release, there are 920 bottles available. This batch has well balanced notes of butterscotch, vanilla,  toasted sugar, caramelized brown sugar, fig, apricot, honey, citrus, and oak.

This is the first major release using Bluegrass Distiller’s recently revealed label redesign which features an updated logo and jockey silk inspired patterns for each mash bill. The label also highlights Elkwood Farm, the future home of Bluegrass Distillers, located in Midway, KY.

“Our team is exceptionally proud of this delicious Small Batch Wheated Bourbon release. It is our second bottled-in-bond product which marks a major milestone for our distillery.” said co-owner, Ben Franzini. “This is the first major release using our newly designed label and it is representative of the extraordinarily high quality products we look forward to producing more of as we embark on our distillery expansion this year.”

Bottles of the Wheated Bottled in Bond will be available for purchase from Bluegrass Distillers distillery location beginning Friday April 9th at 9 am. Bottles will also be available through distribution in the next couple of weeks.

Bluegrass Distillers began distilling in 2013, mashing each ounce of grain by hand and opened its doors on West 6th Street in Lexington, KY in 2015 at its current distillery in the Bread Box building. The Distillery is community-focused, and gives back through their Philanthropic Barrel Program. Bluegrass is currently undergoing a major expansion at the Historic Elkwood Farm in Midway, KY where they will relocate with an expanded distillery, barrel warehouses, tasting room, visitor center, and event spaces in late 2021.
